BrightPath is a partnership of experienced organisations led by people who are Autistic and/or have a learning disability, including bemix, Aucademy and The Kent Autistic Trust. BrightPath is the preferred training provider in Kent and Medway for delivering The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism™, the Government’s standardised, preferred, and recommended training. BrightPath trains the health and social care workforce to have the right skills and knowledge to provide safe, compassionate and informed care and support to Autistic people and people with a learning disability. The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism™ ensures health and social care professionals feel confident and equipped to provide safe, compassionate, and effective care and support. Required under the Health and Care Act 2022, this training is a critical step in improving outcomes and saving lives. Developed with Autistic people and people with a learning disability, it brings real-world insights into practical training. The training is named after Oliver McGowan, a young man with a learning disability and later on an Autistic diagnosis, whose tragic experience highlighted the need for better education among healthcare professionals. His story shines a light on the urgent need for better understanding in healthcare, leading to a national movement, ensuring that every professional has the knowledge and confidence to provide the best possible care and support.
