Four interns are currently gaining valuable work experience during Supported Internships with Sodexo at the University of Greenwich Medway Campus, through bemix and DFN Project Search.

As part of their regular “lunch and learn” sessions, the Sodexo team invited bemix to deliver a Disability Awareness Training session. The session helped staff better understand the people they work alongside, and offer the best support.

The session took place online and covered key topics such as:

  • What is neurodiversity?

  • What is global development delay?

  • What challenges might someone with a learning difficulty face at work?

  • What are reasonable adjustments?

  • How can we communicate clearly and respectfully?

  • What practical tips can help make workplaces more accessible?

We shared videos during the session to help bring real experiences and voices into the training, and were delighted by how engaged and open the Sodexo team were throughout. It was fantastic to hear such positive feedback, both about the session itself and the work of our interns.

We hope the session has helped the Sodexo team feel more confident and equipped to support young autistic people, and young people with learning difficulties and/or learning disabilities.

Thank you to everyone at Sodexo for taking the time to listen, learn and show their commitment to inclusion.
